True gardeners…new snow on the mountains, 4 degrees out, cold but dedicated garden members out to get ready and plant the garden…Thanks Everyone!
Apparently there is a technique to digging. Matthew from Environmental Youth Alliance ( http://www.eya.ca ) showing the ladies how to loosen the soil and prepare the bed for direct seed planting. We added some landscaping soil, mixed it with sea soil and a bit of extra fertilizer that the E.Y.A. make for super healthy, strong plants. We had a busy productive morning.
Getting the greens bed ready. Today we planted in the greens box:
Mustard Lettuce, Red Lettuce, Baby Greens Mix
In our edible flower box we planted Nasturtium seeds
In one of our gai lan boxes we planted beets and spinach and once the gai lan is finished we will plant some tomatoes
We cleaned up the herb box then transplanted the sage and thyme we also moved several of the herbs around to better places and removed some that were over crowding and found new homes for them.
We took out the lavender and gave it to a better home as the location we had it in was not good for it and have direct seeded some American ginseng, hopefully it will do well there…we will soon find out!
