Weed Or Not?

Does this plant look familiar? It grows pretty prolific in the spring here.

It is called Chickweed (Stellaria media).

Before you dig it out did you know that this is a tasty and good food source as well as a great herb?

Chickweed can be eaten fresh… add small amounts to salads for a wonderful spring treat.

It helps to aid in digestion as well it is often used to help with weight loss.

Can be used fresh by using the juice or as a poultice for irritated skin.

Fresh or dried it may be made into a tea and drunk to treat chest ailments or added to a bath to help reduce inflammations of joints etc.

It can be dried and infused into oil and made into creams and salves.

It soothes severe itchiness.

Helps eczema, varicose veins and nettle rash.

Cream can be used for diaper rash

Cautions of this herb:

It can cause diarrhea if taken in excessive doses and should not be taken during pregnancy
